I found Elmer! And a Giveaway.

It has been 2 years since I added one square to my BIG blanket. The last time I wrote about it was in March 2013

http://chalkygilbert.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/how-many-little-squares-to-gallon.html

I have been aware of its quiet murmurings and it's cheeky winks as I have been working on a plethora of other projects. I have made different blankets..... All much smaller. I have finished my first Applique quilt full of Monster Fun for William. But I have not added one square to the big blanket I started all that time ago.

Yesterday I decided to bring it out of hiding. My daughter was here and she helped me see its beauty all over again.

We laid it on the king size bed. We talked colours, patterns and crochet details but most of all we counted.I can not believe that although it is probably 80% finished. That might not include the border. But despite all those hooky stitches we reckon there is at least another 300 squares to do!!

I made a start last night and sewed on some which have been patiently waiting! Luckily when I got up this morning and looked into the sun streaked room I felt uplifted. I felt enthusiastic and after all this time I felt ready to finish my Elmer blanket.

In the first instance it could take a while and in the second it is definitely going to be a " one off " I am totally in awe of folks who crochet BIG blankets. I think the next time I blog about it will be the " Tah Dah "moment.

Could you help me keep going by estimating the date of that special post. And the nearest to it will get a Giveaway prize. It won't be the blanket though!! I think it will feel like a group hug and knowing their is an expectation,a selection of dates, and an end result maybe my hook will be 'smokin!"

As always a huge Thank You for such a wonderful response to my post about Reading. I found all your responses so encouraging and rewarding.

  1. It is certainly a beautiful blanket, I love all the bright colours. Another 2 months should see it finished if you work on it a little bit each day. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

  2. It's gorgeous! I'll guess you will have it finished by the middle of March. If you need an exact date I'll go with the 15th.

  3. Since there are still 300 squares to do up (wow!!) I'm going to guess in April ... specifically April 25. Good luck ... it looks gorgeous on the bed with the sun streaming in. I would throw it on the bed again whenever you need a little bit of a push ;)

  4. I'm in the exact same boat with a big blanket! I keep wanting to just make it a smaller than intended blanket and enjoy it as it is but I'm persevering :) Yours is so pretty :) I think it will be around April 10th

  6. I am also crocheting a king size blanket. It has been in a bag since just before Christmas but I hope to get back to it again very soon. I am going to say your blanket will be finished for the 25th of April. It is really gorgeous so you'll want to get it finished soon.

  7. Hmmm, 300 more squares?! Gee, if you do 3 squares a day, that's 100 days from now. Factor in a bit of a break here and there, and a spurt or two, and I'll guess June 1, 2015. Elmer looks wonderful! Happy hooking.

Good luck with it & keep hooking...from a fellow Mojacar resident now blogging as Maid in Mojacar ( partly due to reading your blog and being inspired by it!)

  12. Sometimes we just need to take a break from a project that overwhelms us. Then sure enough, like you said, you see it and fall in love all over again. The sunshine on your blanket surely was a sign that by finishing it there will be more cheerfulness on sunny mornings. It would even give one a boost to go in and make up the bed just to see all the pretty colors smiling back at you. I have no idea when you will finish this but July 1st might be a good date?

  14. Well done for getting it out at last Linda, it's a lovely blanket, try and do as I did commit to doing so many a day and it will be finished before you know it especially if you join as you go. But I'm going to be pessimistic and say June 1st that gives you lots of time to take it slow and enjoy the experience. :) xx

  15. It's an amazing achievement already! I recently finished a big blanket and it was a real undertaking and it will be sometime before I attempt another. Good luck with the race to the finish line, however long it takes. xx

  16. Oh it's beautiful! I think if you aimed for June it gives you time to enjoy finishing it off, and if you finish before then, tis a bonus...and you could start a new one! ^_^ XOX
