Oh Dear. Disaster. I am so fed up.

I could write loads of words about this ..,,, I wanted to make 25 different coloured squares out of the stash I was taking down to our little house in Spain. I wanted to achieve this working in the car on a three day, 1300 mile journey.

I thought I had achieved my goal .. I was nearly there. I ran out of colours but I knew that once we reached our little Spanish house my wool stash would be waiting for the last two colours I needed. I had enough yarns in the car to make 23 squares. So .... easy ...... Just leave the last two until the end of the journey. Just work the border and then infill. So many stitches. So much counting . The border was finished. All that was needed was the last two infill squares.

I can not tell you how I felt to shake the latest charity blanket out. We had arrived and after being squashed in the tiniest crochet space for the last three days I realised my blanket for charity had three corners! I can not infill with those two squares because I have not left enough space for them !!!! How did I not see that?

So now I have to rip out all that border and start it all over again.

Right now, I would rather chuck the whole lot in the bin. But tomorrow is a new day !!!

  1. Oh dear :( I'm not sure how you managed that either but I know I've managed some really weird mistakes so it happens easily! Once you re-do it, you'll feel loads better

  2. Oh dear, sometimes we just don't notice and we plough ahead and it isn't until we lay it out that we see something is not quite right. I hate to rip back, but once you get past the ripping back part it can be very satisfying to put your lovely project right (((hugs)))

  3. Oh Linda that's such a shame. It's odd how we make these mistakes without noticing. I did something quite similar with my Join As a You Go. But you'll rip it out, carry on and have a sense of achievement when you've finished. Enjoy your time away.

  5. Yes, Linda, sadly you must rip it out. Do it today! Don't throw away all that work! You'll be glad you did in the end. You must have been tired with all the travelling. The Spanish sun will restore your sense of humour and you'll laugh about it later.

  6. Oh Linda! That is so sad, after all of your hard work. I hope that you can sort it out, I am sure that you can, but it is annoying isn't it. Probably caused because you were working in such a small space and couldn't spread it out to see what you were doing properly. I think that you will be on small projects in the car when you come home! Hope that you have a lovely time in Spain, even if you end up spending some of it frogging this blanket and reworking it. The weather has to be a lot better than it is over here at the moment! xx

  7. Oh poor you! I know how you feel :-(
Actually, if you have enough yarn left of all the border colours, I have an idea. Could you not just cut through the border of the corner in question, unravel each row a bit on each side of the cut (the outer ones more than the inner ones). Add in the missing squares, lay it out flat and rejoin yarn to each cut row in turn, starting with the innermost one, and work it round to the other side of the cut and sew the ends together? Not sure if I've made myself clear or not, but it might be worth a try ?

  8. Oh no. I would have felt the same. I like to crochet in the car too but I almost always end up making a mistake when I do it. I'm sorry you have to rework your blanket. I am sure it will beautiful when everything is done, it looks lovely so far, even with the mistake. Have a safe trip.

  9. Oh, no! What a shame you have to rip it all. It will be lovely in the end, though.
Enjoy the sun and warmth of Spain. We got another snowfall last night-- about 5 inches to add to all we already have!

  10. Oh no! How frustrating. But don't throw it away, you'll regret it later. You'll be so glad you finished it when you do. Enjoy Spain. x

  12. Thank you all so much for such sympathetic comments. And 1 million brownie points to Julie of Mack and Mabel. Her solution worked and the blanket is finished by adding the missing bits not ripping it all back. The best Tah Dah moment in ages xxxxx
