Meandering on Dartmoor.

Until the last couple of days the weather has been really dull, even miserable!
Just waiting for anticyclones in the South West to pass is really like eating  pasties and cream teas-- just something you do!
Now, that is fine when you have lots of ordinary things to do, stroking wool,a little hooking, reading and of course the housework!!!!
But if visitors arrive of course you want everything to look it's sparkly best!
But this summer has been a challenge so last week when we had visitors we went meandering -- as you do!

Up onto Dartmoor

To a Devon Longhouse.

The prettiest pub that sells Real Ale and real Pasties!

The garden is just so pretty. It has all the things that conglomerates don't have.
Even a bus stop in the gardens!

I love quirky!
Meandering was so lovely in the garden.

And you can have all this on your very own doorstep for a little while!
A holiday cottage is available to rent.

Dartmoor is a beautiful National Park where walking, riding, fishing, rock climbing and just about anything else that you fancy doing is available.
The views are stunning even on a meandering day.

I think I have mentioned before that my Great Grandmother used to play the organ at the little church perched right on the top of Brentor.
I must climb it one day and see if there are any records of her within its granite walls.

And of course it is such a treat to see the ponies.
When I was a little girl I used to beg my Dad to put one in the boot and take it home.
He was a local vet and during the last years of his life he lived on Dartmoor and became the consultant for the Dartmoor ponies on the moor.

I think he loved that job best.
Dartmoor is a place of legend, fable and folklore inspiring writers, poets and artists alike.
If you would like to read about some of them have a look here
If ever you are in Devon do a little meandering like me you will love it!

  8. I so love Dartmoor. We toured the south west on our honeymoon last year and Dartmoor National Park was without doubt our favourite place. It was also lambing season and I'm a real sucker for a little lamb! The Rugglestone Inn reminds me of where we stayed in The Who'd Have Thought It Inn in Milton Combe.
I can't wait to visit again with our little Emma but for now I love reading about your meandering :)

  11. Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year
old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She
put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
