8 " squares and Lapacuddlyghans with a very special purpose!!

" Its Hip To Be Square!!"
I actually feel very priveledged to belong to a Charity knitting group. It is internet based so no-one actually knows anyone, but that is so the opposite of how it feels .A lovely lady called Kathy started the idea with no idea of how it would develop and it has developed beyond our wildest dreams!!
In the first instance the purpose of the group is to provide knitted or crochet items for charitable organisations in the UK and all over the world.
What has actually evolved is a group of people who do knit and crochet, but who also share in each others lives. A friend is a friend if they lend an ear, give a word of encouragement or are just there to listen when things are either totally wonderful or totally horrible.
So patterns are exchanged, wool qualities are discussed, projects are talked about and these things are really important.
Add to that the odd recipe, news of a baby being born. a wedding, a christening, a family event sometimes sad. sometimes happy and all these things make the group somewhere special .
We have all shared so many things in 2009 and now as a mini project that we can all feel a part of the idea of " squares " is being launched.
Eight inch squares can either be knitted or crocheted and then once sewn together and finished off with some special touches they become "cuddlylapaghans! " for deserving causes that are close to all our hearts.
Here is the first to be finished. I know it will be the first of many!!

It is absolutely freezing outside and I know blankets like this will give so much comfort.
If you feel like joining in please leave me a comment and I will get back to you.

  1. Hi Chalky, thank you again for your wonderful words. As part of the group you mentioned (I joined last spring) I echo your thoughts and sentiments - its a wonderful group of people, supportive when needed, happy to be happy for you, occasionally a wee bit daft!?!

  2. Linda - this is a wonderful post which describes the charity knitting perfectly, highlighting not just the fact that much-needed items are made for deserving causes, but also that they are made by kind-hearted generous people who, through the knitting, help and support each other, too. It's an honour to be a part of such a lovely group of people. I wish you and your family the happiest New Year!
